Almost looks like Thomas Hardy, probably not the original poet,
but more than likely a cousin, first, second or third. Hardy is a fairly
common last name, so it's not unusual. But the features that may be
described as some what milquetoastish or even in modern day terms, geekish,
are somewhat in the Thomas Hardy vein. There were many brothers and cousins with
more common names like William Hardy, Alexander Hardy, and so forth. The style
of facial hair suggests a teacher or lecturer or even a scientist or magician.
Although, I have heard the suggestion that he might be a gambler, as this was the
1800s and the days of the wild west.
